Jules W. Lederer, 81, Salesman and Budget Rent-a-Car founder

Jules W. Lederer, the founder of Budget Rent-a-Car and former husband of Ann Landers, the popular consultation syndicated newspaper columnist, died Thursday of a heart attack in his house in the outskirts of London. He was 81

Born in Detroit, Mr. Lederer went to school in ninth grade to support his mother and sister after his father died. He made his living as a salesman, sales of all pens and pencils with advertising slogans on hats and newspapers and notes before the budget in the late 1950’s, which grew to one of the greatest Nation’s automobile rentals.

The company has been popular in its early days of car rentals at lower prices than its competitors. It weighs $ 5 per day and 5 cents per mile. He won the eyes of a growth business and vacation market because of its practice of car rental agencies outside of airports. Mr. Lederer is also credited as one of the first applications on franchising of auto-industry.

While the sale of hats, Sioux City, Iowa, in 1939, he met Ms. Landers, then known as Eppie (Esther Pauline) Friedman, has been charged, another man and a shop with her twin sister , Pauline, later known as the consultation columnist Abigail Van Buren. In a statement yesterday, Ms. Landers said:”Jules was a world-class salesman. At age 21, he sold to myself when I went on TS Martin store to buy a wedding veil. The couple divorced in 1975 after 36 years of marriage. Informing readers about the decision in a column that was shorter than most, “said Landers,”I left the white space as a memorial to the best success in the world, who are not that the finish line.”

Mr. Lederer spent more than two decades of living in Chicago. He lived in Milwaukee, New Orleans and Sioux City, Iowa. He sold cheaply to the transaction America Corporation, an insurance company with headquarters in San Francisco, 1968. He moved to London over 25 years, having separated from Ms. Landers. While in London, he remarried and the couple had a daughter, Anthea.

Mr. Lederer leaves his wife, Elizabeth, two daughters, Margo Howard Lederer and Anthea Lederer, a brother, Sol, a sister, Madelyn Ferris, three grandchildren and three rear-grandchild son.
